SHOCKER: Muslim College Student Drops Post-Election Hate Crime Claim

A Muslim student at San Diego State University has decided to stop pursuing criminal charges based on her Nov. 10 claim that two twentysomething men physically assaulted her and advised her “to start fleeing” now that Donald Trump is America’s president-elect.

The unidentified woman made the curious decision to drop her claims on Tuesday, reports NBC San Diego.

Previously, she claimed that the post-presidential election attack had occurred at around 2:30 p.m in a stairwell in a campus parking garage. She was wearing a hijab and traditional Islamic attire, she said.

Back on Nov. 10, NBC San Diego breathlessly reported that San Diego State police were investigating the attack as a hate crime — and strong-arm robbery, and auto theft.

Police looked carefully but apparently fruitlessly at surveillance tapes from parking garage cameras “in the hopes of tracking the now-missing car.”

“The student wearing a traditional headscarf and full Islamic clothing was in a stairwell when two men — 20 to 25 years old, one white, one Hispanic — stole her purse and backpack. They ran off with her car keys,” the station matter-of-factly reported.

The unidentified woman said the two men denounced her for her Muslim beliefs and taunted her about Trump.

“They were saying things like, ‘Now that Trump is president, get ready to start fleeing,'” the alleged attack victim’s friend, Alisha Sharif, told San Diego Fox affiliate KSWB-TV. They proceeded to push her around and she wrestled with them,” Sharif described.

Now, eight weeks after the attack, the woman has decided she doesn’t want to press charges after all.

Also, campus police say her car wasn’t stolen after all. Turns out, San Diego State police spokesman Greg Noll told NBC San Diego, she just totally forgot where she had parked her vehicle.

At the time of the alleged parking garage attack, there were contemporaneous election-related marches around the San Diego State campus. Chants included “Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! Donald Trump has got to go!” (RELATED: The Daily Caller’s YUGE Roundup Of Campus Freakouts After Trump’s Victory)

In 2015, the Muslim Student Association at San Diego State demanded that school officials develop a formal policy outlawing certain political speech including “Islamophobic speech” and, in fact, “bigotry towards any other identity group.”

The Muslim group cooked up the speech-suppression demand — and seven other demands to boot — back in 2015 after an unidentified female Muslim student claimed a white male grabbed her by the hijab in a parking lot on campus and told her to leave the United States. That attack allegedly occurred six days after a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in Paris, France.

San Diego State’s Muslims also demand more coursework “offered on Islam” back in 2015 as well as the complete elimination of “systems of oppression that disproportionately target students of color, womyn [sic], and all marginalized students on campus.”
