Mexico City officials equipped subway seats with replica penises in an effort to raise awareness of the sexual assaults women face, according to Monday reports.
Subway seats are now shaped to resemble a man’s body, complete with nipples, a chest, stomach and a limp penis. Underneath the seats are signs explaining their purpose and are designated for men only.
“It’s uncomfortable to sit here, but it doesn’t compare with the sexual violence that women suffer in their everyday lives,” each sign reads.
Officials also released a video as part of the campaign, which shows people looking at the seats in confusion and shaking their heads in disgust.
