Watches have been in the news a lot lately. Or at least I seem to have read quite a few profiles about watches and watch lovers. They all have the same gist: in the age of technology and robots and smartphones, watches are the last refuge of times past. Watches are an accessory that ostensibly serves a purpose (to tell time) that is quite obsolete in modern society. Wearing a watch is a small protest against inexorable change progressives bring along as they attempt to tear down and rewrite human history.

I’m not here to write another self-satisfactory reflection on the value of wearing a watch. I don’t care if you wear a watch or not. (I know the title here says otherwise).
