Reports indicating House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi effectively dictated President Donald Trump’s Wednesday morning tweet reassuring Dreamers quickly fell apart as journalists reversed course on a major detail of the story.
Journalists incorrectly reported that Trump’s assurance Dreamers would not be deported in the next six months was the result of a phone call initiated by Pelosi. But the reports, which all cite one anonymous Democratic aide, were quickly corrected after it became clear that Trump called Pelosi.

The White House confirmed that President Trump spoke with Senators McConnell and Schumer as well as Speaker Ryan and Minority Leader Pelosi Thursday morning.
“The President spoke to Senators McConnell and Schumer as well as Speaker Ryan and Minority Leader Pelosi this morning. The President is committed to working across the aisle and doing what is needed to best serve the American people. The President is also having dinner with Speaker Ryan later tonight,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters.
Sanders would not confirm reports that Pelosi asked Trump to tweet about not deporting DACA recipients.
Trump issued a public reassurance to those affected by his decision to roll back the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program over the next six months, ending amnesty for some 800,000 illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.
For all of those (DACA) that are concerned about your status during the 6 month period, you have nothing to worry about – No action!

Trump expressed hope that Congress would codify the protection offered to Dreamers before the six month period expired. In a Tweet sent hours after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the administration’s plan to roll back the program.
Congress now has 6 months to legalize DACA (something the Obama Administration was unable to do). If they can’t, I will revisit this issue!
