President Donald Trump received applause after saying that he will always put America first during his Tuesday address to the United Nations General Assembly.

In Trump’s first speech to the U.N. since becoming president, he said that it is every government’s first duty to put their citizens first and to defend their values, receiving his first round of applause after saying, “I will always put America first.”

“As president of the United States, I will always put America first. Just like you as the leaders of your countries will always, and should always put your countries first,” Trump told the group of foreign leaders from 193 different countries at the U.N.’s 72nd annual gathering.

Trump also spoke about peace, mentioning the respect he had for the different countries and cultures and saying that the countries will continue working together with mutual respect.

“Strong, sovereign nations let diverse countries with different values, different cultures, and different dreams not just coexist but work side-by-side on the basis of mutual respect,” Trump said.
