Wisconsin might lower the drinking age to 19, and that’s a genius idea if I’ve ever heard one.
The Badger State is full of Americans who love to drink. I know this might shock some people, but pretty much everybody does it before 21. It’s already legal to drink under 21 at any age if you’re with a parent, so this just seems like common sense to me.
USA Today reported the following on the proposed bill:
Wisconsin’s beer-loving reputation would get a boost under a proposal to lower the state’s drinking age to 19.

“At 19 years old, there are very few things that you cannot do,” said 38-year-old Rep. Adam Jarchow, of Balsam Lake, in a memo to colleagues seeking their support. Nineteen-year-olds have legally been an adult for one year, can enlist in the military and be sent thousands of miles away to fight, but can’t “enjoy an alcoholic beverage,” he said.
First, I love the fact that Jarchow used the military as one of his reasons for the bill. Anything that involves supporting the troops probably has a lot better chance of passing in Wisconsin. It’s a state full of patriots.
Second, this law has to be passed, even if USA Today reports there are some obstacles in the way. Walker should literally campaign on this law if he wants to win the youth vote. I grew up in Wisconsin, and I know beer transcends politics. There are people I know who would for sure vote for Walker on this issue alone. They might be staunch liberals, but they’ll be voting Republican if it means this gets etched into stone.
People in Wisconsin are going to keep drinking anyways, and cops wasting resources on underage tickets is beyond stupid. It makes sense, the people will love it, and Wisconsin should lead the way on this one.
Make the right decision and show the rest of America how Badgers get down.
