Colorado State Rep Arrested For Bringing Loaded Gun To The Airport
A Colorado Republican state representative was arrested Tuesday for bringing a loaded handgun through a security checkpoint at Denver International Airport.
Rep. Lori Saine of Weld, Colo., was picked up after the baggage screeners noticed what looked like a loaded handgun in her carry-on bags, and police say she may have done it intentionally, the Denver Post reports.
When police arrived at the security checkpoint, they found a 9mm Kahr Arms semi-automatic with four rounds in it, though the chamber was empty, according to the arrest report.
Saine was taken in on suspicion of introducing a firearm into a transportation facility, a felony charge, pending further investigation. “The investigation is ongoing, so additional details are not available for release at this time,” Denver Police told the Post. “At the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be presented to the Denver district attorney’s office for consideration of possible charges.”
She is an avid gun rights activist, and has introduced or cosponsored a number of firearms bills. One 2013 bill Saine cosponsored promised to “nullify any and all federal gun control efforts” if passed, but the bill failed.
The Denver airport is ranked fifth in the nation for most guns confiscated each year, and the TSA seized 91 guns in 2016.
Saine’s office did not return The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
