Two Notre Dame football players were arrested for shoplifting on Friday night and have now been suspended from the team indefinitely, according to a local news organization in South Bend, Indiana.
Fighting Irish receiver Kevin Stepherson and freshman running back CJ Holmes were caught shoplifting at a Macy’s department store at the University Park Mall in Mishawaka. Stepherson reportedly stole a pair of $59 sweatpants and Holmes tried to make off with a $79 North Face coat, before the two players were stopped by Macy’s security and busted.

The two were arrested Friday night for shoplifting.

“The University is aware of this incident and is confident that it will be handled appropriately by the criminal justice system,” Notre Dame spokesman Dennis Brown said in a statement. “University discipline is handled privately, in accord with our own policies and federal law.”
The star receiver and freshman running back were not taken to jail or booked as a result of the incident, but the case will now go to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office where it will be determined whether or not charges will be filed.

Both players, however, have been suspended indefinitely from all football-related activities with the team.
