Democratic Minnesota Sen. Al Franken vowed to keep publicly speaking Thursday night, despite his impending resignation from the United States Senate.

Franken, who will reportedly step down Jan. 2 after multiple accusations of sexual harassment, gave a speech to his supporters in Minneapolis, thanking them and his family.

“I may be leaving the Senate but I’m not giving up my voice,” Franken said to those gathered. “Working on behalf of the people of Minnesota has been the honor of my life and I could not have done this without the help of my family, friends, and supporters. Thank you.”

Approximately seven women accused Franken of either forcibly kissing or touching them. Franken apologized for some of the incidents, but denied the other allegations in a December resignation speech.

“I was shocked. I was upset. But in responding to their claims, I wanted to be respectful of that broader conversation because all women deserve to be heard and their experience taken seriously,” Franken said in the speech. “I’m giving up my seat, but I’m not giving up my voice.”

Franken still remains relatively popular in his home state as about fifty percent of Minnesota voters believe Franken should keep his position in the Senate, according to Public Policy Polling, a left-leaning poll.
