Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris ignored the findings of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) memo by focusing on Russian bots and social media interference, Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“People are playing politics with our process. And when it comes to classified information, we have to understand that we should not be weaponizing it, that we have to have integrity,” Harris said. “The Russians, I think frankly, are sitting back eating the popcorn watching this, right?”
Harris repeated the narrative of other Democrats and sided with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and intelligence community, instead of addressing the alleged corruption and political bias within the government.
“And let’s remember the underlying issue — an adversarial country interfered in the election of the President of the United States,” she continued.
“We cannot lose sight of the fact that the intelligence community has been unanimous in finding that to be true. That we do know the underlying reason among many is that they want to interfere in the American public’s confidence and trust in our government and our democracy,” she said.
Host Joe Scarborough continued the narrative by saying Russia interfered in the 2016 election and also played a role in the campaign to release the FISA memo. He claimed Russian “bots” and political actors used social media to push for the memo’s release.
“The Russian intelligence services, the Russian bots got energize and engaged in that debate, that was meant to help interfere with an investigation against Russia,” Scarborough said.
Harris believes the Russians are using Americans as “pawns” and believes they will continue to interfere in U.S. affairs and try to influence the upcoming midterm elections.
“We are proving, some of us, to be pawns in a game that the Russians have created the rule book for and they’re still on the chess board. They are still playing in this game and we are not seeing what is happening. We are not seeing that they are capturing something most precious to us as a country, which is the confidence we have in our democracy and our system of justice,” The California Democrat said.
“Let’s not lose sight of the fact that we should be thinking about this issue of Russia’s interference not only by looking in the rear-view mirror at what happened and looking at 2018 andwhat is predictable, what is predictable to your point about the bot interference and the discussion about the memo. 2018 is around the corner,” she concluded.
