CNN took time to defend White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and adviser Kellyanne Conway from media attacks on “New Day” Friday, despite having trashed them for months.

“I think two people who get attacked are Sarah Sanders and Kellyanne Conway and I don’t think that’s fair,” said New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman. “I think that this all stems from the president and that’s just where this is coming from.”

Host Chris Cuomo stepped in and said he agreed with Haberman but went on to say Sanders and Conway made their own choices and have to live with them.

“That’s fine. But one thing, I agree with what you’re saying, period,”Cuomo said. “But when it comes to Sanders and Kellyanne Conway, they make their own choices about what they say and what they don’t. I’m sure they get heavy pressure … They make the choice whether or not to echo things.”

Co-host Alisyn Camerota interrupted Cuomo to highlight gender inequality in the media and even managed to make it about herself by mentioning her own struggles with criticism.

“I’m with Maggie,” Camerota shot back. “I think that they get more criticism from the public. I hear it too. Then the guys who go out and also say falsehoods and untruths.”

“But like who?” Cuomo snapped.

“Sebastian Gorka, Scaramucci,” Camerota replied.

“Sebastian Gorka?” Cuomo said. “He was completely maligned. We beat him up on this show.”
