It Only Took An Hour For Anti-Gun Groups To Blame NRA For Texas Shooting

Tim Pearce | Energy Reporter

Roughly an hour after at least eight people died in a high school shooting in Texas, The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) implicated the National Rifle Association (NRA) in the tragedy.

The CSGV tweeted out a list lawmakers in Texas’ Congressional delegation who have accepted contributions from the NRA, along with “#SantaFeHighSchool.”

Authorities responded to a shooting at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, at roughly 8 a.m. Friday morning. One male suspect is in custody while another male has been detained as a person of interest. Both are students enrolled in the school, according to authorities. The CSGV is “dedicated to taking on the NRA and their toxic agenda. We were the first gun violence prevention group to use the term ‘insurrectionism’ to describe the NRA’s dangerous interpretation of the Second Amendment,” according to the group’s website.

Later Friday morning, CNN began covering the shooting as the 22nd school shooting in the U.S. in 2018, restating a false claim debunked in February. The CNN claim lumps in events such as domestic disputes and situations that don’t involve students. The result is a grand total far above what is commonly considered a school shooting. The CSGV did not respond to a request for comment.
