White House press secretary Sarah Sanders knocked the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday for pulling out of a White House event at the last minute.
WATCH:
President Trump announced on Monday that the Super Bowl-winning Eagles team would no longer be welcome in the White House because a number of them dropped out last minute. He also cited the fact that some players on the team carried out protests against the national anthem and asserted he would hold a celebration of America instead.
The Philadelphia Eagles Football Team was invited to the White House. Unfortunately, only a small number of players decided to come, and we canceled the event. Staying in the Locker Room for the playing of our National Anthem is as disrespectful to our country as kneeling. Sorry!

Sanders placed the blame squarely on the Eagles for being disinvited and said that the “fans deserve better” than a “political stunt.”
“If this wasn’t a political stunt by the Eagles franchise, then they wouldn’t have planned to attend the event and backed out at the last minute. If it wasn’t a political stunt, then they wouldn’t have attempted to reschedule the visit when they knew the president would be overseas and if this wasn’t a political stunt, they wouldn’t have waited until Monday, well after thousand of their fans traveled and taken time out of their schedules to offer a only a tiny handful of representatives to attend the event,” Sanders asserted.
