Feminist activist Gloria Steinem debuted a new lip gloss Tuesday with profits going to help women in prison, she told ELLE.

Steinem, a feminist and political activist, detailed her new lip gloss “In the Clear,” which is featured with the social justice makeup brand Lipstick Lobby. Profits from Steinem’s lip gloss will go to the unPrison Project, an organization that helps women acquire life skills while in jail, ELLE.com reported.

Steinem explained the significance of the lipstick name “In the Clear.” (RELATED: Of Course Gloria Steinem Was Sexually Harassed)

“I suggested lip gloss because it happens that I don’t wear lipstick, and I do wear lip gloss. So, when they asked me to name it, I was trying to think of a name that would be significant to women who have lost their freedom,” Steinem told ELLE.

Steinem also told ELLE why makeup can be feminist.

“Human beings, from tribal days forward, have decorated their bodies,” she said. “The question might be asked why men don’t do it in our culture. And the second question is: are we doing it out of joy or out of insecurity? If we feel unacceptable without makeup, that’s a problem. If we are doing it for positive reasons, it’s different.”

The lip gloss’ packaging was designed by Los Angeles artist Amanda Oleander. The gloss sells for $19. All proceeds go to the unPrison Project.

The lip gloss is available starting Tuesday, according to Vogue.
