Police spokesman Rob van der Veen confirmed the stabbing incident occurred shortly after noon, local time, in Amsterdam. A Dutch news station reported that the incident followed an argument.
“Something happened, we don’t know yet what, but during that two people were stabbed and one person with a knife in his hand walked away and he was shot by police,” van der Veen said, according to AP.

Police are still investigating the motive but said that they are considering all possible scenarios. Authorities temporarily closed two platforms to train traffic and stopped trams coming to and from the square near the station’s entrance, but did not evacuate the station.
