President Donald Trump and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden are neck and neck in a new poll.
Both potential candidates are at 42% each in a new Fox News poll. The results would seem to reflect Trump’s approval ratings that have come with the coronavirus pandemic and the president’s daily news conferences with the coronavirus task force.
Biden only recently enjoyed a nine point lead over the president, according to Fox. (RELATED: Joe Rogan: ‘I Would Rather Vote For Trump’ Than Joe Biden)
The poll also indicated unusually high support for a third-party candidate — even though one does not exist at this time.
Biden has seen his support collapse among women and non-whites and decrease among Democrats with 80% now backing his candidacy as opposed to 87% two weeks ago.
“The timing of the coronavirus pandemic meant Biden didn’t get the opportunity to rally crowds and build enthusiasm after his big primary wins in early March,” Democrat pollster Chris Anderson told Fox News. Anderson and Republican Daron Shaw jointly conducted the poll. (RELATED: Trump: Biden ‘Couldn’t Tell You’ What Xenophobia Means)
“And now Americans of all political stripes have a shared enemy in the coronavirus, and the right thing for him to do from a public health perspective is stay home. That’s a tough position for the Biden campaign,” Anderson told Fox.
Since going into self-isolation at his home in Delaware, Biden has been conducting regular livestream monologues and occasion network interviews.
The former vice president said Tuesday that he offered Trump “make work checklist” when the two talked on Monday — he meant “make it work checklist.”
During a segment of “The View” Biden was asked whether he was concerned about the economic fallout from the COVID-19 virus being as devastating as the disease.
“We have to take care of the cure. That will make the problem worse no matter what. No matter what,” Biden responded. “We know what has to be done … We’ve got to flatten that curve and we’ve got to make sure that once, in fact, we have this under control, it doesn’t come back.”
