“The Great One” (Wayne Gretzky) and “The Great 8” (Alex Ovechkin) raised $16,000 dollars on Twitch for their stream. They then decided to call the games a tie and match half of the money raised each, bringing the total amount of money raised to $32,000 dollars. That money will be split between the Edmonton Food Bank and the MSE Foundations “Feeding the Frontlines” fund, according to NBCS. (RELATED: Defenseman P.K. Subban Hosting NHL Trivia Show)

The original goal of the stream was to raise $10,000 dollars. By the end of the first game the stream had raised well over that goal. Wayne Gretzky represented his Edmonton Oilers, where he won four Stanley Cups, and Alex Ovechkin represented the Washington Capitals, where he won the Stanley Cup two years ago.
