A 14-year-old girl has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her older sister to death while their parents were sleeping in the early morning hours of Monday, Fox News reported.

The teen, identified as Claire Miller of Manheim Township, Pennsylvania, has been charged with criminal homicide in the death of her 19-year-old sister Helen, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office said.

Police officers responded to a call apparently made by Miller in which she told police “she had killed her sister,” the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office announcement read. Court documents  described the girl as “hysterical” during the course of the call, FOX43 reported.

When law enforcement arrived, Miller directed officers to the bedroom where they found Helen had been stabbed in the neck, as reported by Fox News. Efforts to save Helen’s life by first responders were unsuccessful, Fox News reported. (RELATED: Teen Charged With Murder Of Parents, Siblings And A Pregnant Woman)

Investigators said they believed Helen’s parents were sleeping while the stabbing occurred, Fox News reported.

“This certainly is an incredibly tragic and unusual case,” Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams told FOX43 in an email statement.

Officers took Miller into custody at the scene of the crime, according to Fox News. Despite her age, she is being tried as an adult because homicide is not covered under the umbrella of delinquent acts in the state of Pennsylvania. Miller is now being held in Lancaster County Prison without bail, and a preliminary court hearing has been set for Feb. 26, as reported by FOX43.
