Theodor Seuss Geisel was aboard a ship from Europe to New York in the summer of 1936 when he started writing rhymes to entertain himself amid a storm. Those rhymes eventually turned into his first children’s book, “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,” and began Geisel’s career as the beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.
