Transferring is about to get much easier in the NCAA.
According to Ross Dellenger, the NCAA D1 Council is expected to change the transfer rule Wednesday to allow players to switch schools once with immediate eligibility. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)
Today, the NCAA DI Council should, finally, approve a change to the transfer rule granting athletes the ability to transfer once in their career and be immediately eligible, as well as lifting the dead period starting June 1.

Dellenger also reported that the upcoming rule change won’t apply to players who have already transferred once.
Currently, players must get waivers or be a grad-transfer to get immediate eligibility.
Current athletes who have already transferred in their careers do not qualify under the new rule – they cannot transfer again & be immediately eligible w/o a waiver. NCAA will continue using a waiver system, but the waiver criteria is expected to be more stringent, sources say.

I’m a bit hesitant to love a world where college sports turns into free agency at least once for every player.
I don’t think I love it all. However, I understand why we’re trending towards this outcome. There have been some joke transfer waivers over the years.
Tate Martell leaving Ohio State for Miami because he couldn’t beat out Justin Fields, who also got immediate eligibility, is a great example.

However, it’s clear the transfer boat has left the dock and things are going to change. At this point, you can only hope things don’t get too out of control.
We don’t need kids dipping out all the time to create super teams. It’s not the NFL or NBA, which is why we love college sports so much.
