A 55-year-old woman is facing charges for allegedly stabbing her 87-year-old father and his girlfriend to death in his New Jersey home.

Pennsylvania resident Sherry Lee Heffernan was charged for two counts of murder and related weapons violations Monday. Heffernan was arrested for the alleged murder of her father, John Enders, and his girlfriend, Francoise Pitoy, after they were discovered stabbed to death, NJ.com reported. The bodies of Enders and Pitoy were found when police were conducting a welfare check at Enders’ home. Both of them had multiple stab wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. It was not mentioned who requested the welfare check, according to NJ.com.

A medical examiner from Ocean County performed an autopsy on Enders, determining that the cause of death was multiple stab wounds causing a severance of the carotid artery and blunt force trauma. An autopsy for Pitoy is underway, according to a statement from Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

Pennsylvania State Police arrested Heffernan at her home in Chester County, NJ.com reported.

“The cooperative investigation ultimately determined that Heffernan, Mr. Enders’ daughter, was responsible for the deaths of both Mr. Enders and Ms. Pitoy,” Billhimer said, according to Asbury Park Press.
