A three-year-old North Carolina girl accidentally fatally shot herself on Christmas Day after she found a gun in her dad’s truck that had been allegedly left by a guest, according to 911 audio.

Retired Henderson County Sheriff’s Captain Tim Gordon called 911 around 2:45 p.m. to report he was driving to the fire station with his wife and daughter Aylee in the backseat because he couldn’t get a signal on his phone, according to WYFF.

“She picked up a pistol and shot herself in the head on accident,” Gordon told dispatchers, according to the report. “We had a visitor visiting for Christmas. He left a gun in the car. I didn’t know it. And she picked it up and it went off.”

Aylee was immediately taken to a local hospital, and a Go Fund Me page set up for her said Sunday “the pressure on Aylee’s brain is very high, and the next 48 hours are very critical.”

Aylee succumbed to her injuries Tuesday night, according to NBC News. (RELATED: 4-Year-Old Accidentally Shoots And Kills Himself)

Gordon and his wife released an update to the page Wednesday that “our beautiful little angel gained her wings last night.”

The shooting is under investigation and once completed will be submitted to District Attorney Andrew Murray, CNN reported. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation will decide whether to file charges, according to the report.
