MSNBC host Katy Tur and parliamentary reporter Annie Bergeron appeared to be concerned that Canadian truckers had gone so far as to set up pizza ovens and hot tubs as they protest in Ottawa over coronavirus restrictions.
“We have heard it called a nationwide insurrection,” Tur said, noting Ottawa officials have warned about the “siege” and “insurrection.”
“It sounds like you are talking about closed streets in the center of town there. It sounds like it’s causing quite a bit of havoc not just in that city but across the country?”
“This is not just a protest, Ottawa, like any capital city, is used to a protest, but here, right beside me they set up a Plinko table, one of those games you would see on ‘Price Is Right’ and they have open fire pits that are burning downtown, they have villages essentially, they built structures on the street to keep people warm and they have a full set – I saw pizza ovens the other day, even in one spot organizers had three different saunas and a hot tub set up,” Bergeron explained.
“It’s incredible to hear they have saunas or pizza ovens set up,” a seemingly shocked Tur said. (RELATED: Police Seize Fuel From Ottawa Truckers, Outlaw Honking As Standoff Enters Second Week)
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson declared a state of emergency Sunday, claiming the protest “reflect the serious danger and threat to the safety and security of residents posed by the ongoing demonstrations and highlights the need for support from other jurisdictions and levels of government.”
Watson described unlawful behavior amongst the truckers as “excessive noise, use of fireworks, driving through a ‘no truck route,’ failure to drive in a marked lane, and failure to produce documents,” according to CTV.
