A man shot and killed his three daughters and their chaperone in a Sacramento County, California, church before killing himself, authorities said Monday.
The father, who had a restraining order against him by the mother of his children, was believed to have entered the church Monday afternoon to hold a supervised visit with his three daughters, Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones told reporters. Police arrived on the scene to find five people dead, including the shooter, the three children and the person believed to be monitoring the visit.
The girls were ages 9, 10 and 13, authorities said. (RELATED: Former Mayor Michael Nutter Writes Scathing Op-Ed After Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner Denies There’s Major Crime Problem)
Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom condemned the shooting as a “senseless act of gun violence.”
Another senseless act of gun violence in America – this time in our backyard. In a church with kids inside. Absolutely devastating.
Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and their communities.
We are working closely with local law enforcement.

The shooter’s name was not released, but officials said he was 39 years old, the Associated Press reported.
Authorities are investigating the shooting as a domestic violence incident, Jones said.
