Fox News hosts hammered the Department of Homeland Security Friday following a Daily Caller News Foundation report revealing misreported data.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) underreported the number of illegal migrants released without any tracking by almost 18,000% in figures released publicly, while those released with GPS tracking were underreported by 600%, the DCNF exclusively revealed. ICE later revised the publicly-available data following the DCNF’s reporting. (RELATED: ‘In The Shadows’: DCNF Reporter Describes How ICE Massively Underreported Illegal Immigration Data)
“It’s just, first of all, another example of their total dishonesty,” Steve Hilton told Harris Faulkner. “We see it time and time again. It’s always a mistake, an error, no, this is the consequence of their policy and they’re trying to cover it up because everyone can see now and we on this channel have led the way in reporting it, that the border is open and that they lie about it and they say it is secure.”
United States Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) encountered more than 2.3 million migrants in Fiscal Year 2022, with another 230,000 in October, the first month of the new fiscal year, according to official figures. Nearly 600,000 migrants evaded CBP in fiscal year 2022, Fox News reported.
“If anybody wants to take issue what we’re calling out is not true and I called it a flat out lie, why would you say 266 publicly but to your friends in a room as an ICE official, say 50,000?” Faulkner asked. “That’s not even a good way to lie.”
“There is no real defense here,” Hilton said. “Because it’s such a total shambles. There’s nothing that they can point to that actually backs up anything they are saying or justifies this extremist policy.”
The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the DCNF.
