A group of unidentified individuals were seen walking in the background of bodycam footage near the home where four University of Idaho students were killed in their sleep.
Officers had made an unrelated stop of three fellow students for allegedly drinking while underage around 2:50 a.m., on Nov. 13, according to Fox News. The group was stopped less than a mile from the off-campus rental where 21-year-olds Madison Mogen and Kaylee Gonclaves, and 20-year-olds Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle were murdered at some point between 3:00 a.m., and 4:00 a.m., according to Fox News.
Authorities initially said the body cam footage from the unrelated stop provided no additional evidence in relation to the murders but it is unclear if the individuals walking in the background have been identified, with Fox News Digital reportedly asking police for confirmation several times without answer. Former Miami-Dade homicide detective turned private investigator Pat Diaz told Fox News Digital that if police haven’t identified them yet, “they need to locate them ASAP.”
“This is a great lead. Someone knows something.”
Retired NYPD sergeant and professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice Joseph Giacalone said authorities should also narrow down cell phone tower data to see who was in the area at the same time of the murders. The move would require a subpoena or search warrant.
“They can see what phone numbers are attached to a specific cell site,” Giacalone reportedly said.
Authorities have also been searching for individuals who were seen in a vehicle near the victims’ homes during the time of the murders, according to Fox News.
Authorities have yet to identify any suspects in the murders and have provided limited information on the gruesome stabbings.
Authorities responded to a report of an unconscious person around 11:58 a.m., on Nov. 13. Upon arrival officers found the four students fatally stabbed on the second and third floors of their home. Police said the students had arrived home around 1:45 a.m., that day and believe the murders took place sometime between 3 a.m., and 4 a.m.
