A wild brawl erupted Sunday during a friendly soccer game between Costa Rican teams Guanacasteca and A.D. Municipal Liberia, forcing the game to be temporarily suspended.

Video footage from the wild game showed players from both teams attacking each other after tensions from the game spilled over. The game had lasted 26 minutes with the score at 2-1 when fighting broke out, according to the DailyMail.

Guanacasteca forward Steven Williams is seen trying to knee one of the Liberia players before eventually being escorted off the pitch after a Liberia player tackled him to the ground.

As fighting ensued, officials suspended the match but later resumed it in the second half, finishing 3-3.

Guanacasteca manager Yosimar Arias called the situation “embarrassing.” (RELATED: England And Wales Fans Get Into Crazy Street Brawl With Flying Chairs. This Is Why Americans Should Love Soccer)

“It’s a bit embarrassing, it’s a player issue,” according to The Sun.

“When they are friendly, it is not the first time that has happened,” he reportedly continued.

Meanwhile Liberian midfielder Diego Madrigal called it a “stain on national football.”

“This cannot even happen on open courts,” Madrigal reportedly said.
