Left-wing billionaire George Soros and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos are helping a World Economic Forum (WEF) climate financing program that aims to raise $3 trillion annually to help slash emissions and restore “nature loss” by 2050.

The WEF and the Soros-backed Open Society Foundations and Bezos Earth Fund, along with more than 43 other nonprofits, businesses and academic institutions, will become part of the “Giving to Amplify Earth Action” (GAEA) initiative that will fund efforts intended to limit global warming, according to a Tuesday WEF announcement. GAEA and its partners will finance charitable partnerships between public and private entities while identifying where the $3 trillion in funding is most needed. “We are at a tipping point in our efforts to put the planet back on track to meet our climate ambitions,” WEF Founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab said in a statement. “To reach the speed and scale required to heal the Earth’s systems, we need to unlock not only private capital and government funds, but also the philanthropy sector as a truly catalytic force to achieve the necessary acceleration.”

The WEF is attempting to ramp up the amount of money that is donated to fight climate change and noted that only 2% of the $810 billion worth of charitable giving in 2021 was allocated toward cutting back on greenhouse gas emissions, according to the news release.

In November, Bezos, who is the world’s fourth-richest man, said during an interview with CNN that he was “building the capacity to be able to give away this money” in order to fight climate change. Bezos previously pledged to give $10 billion over 10 years to back climate activists, environmental organizations and scientists.

The Open Society Policy Center, which is part of Soros’ Open Society Foundations network, gave $77.53 million in 2021 to organizations with ties to the Democratic Party and groups that seek to expand voter participation, according to a copy of its tax filing.

The Bezos Earth Fund, the Open Society Foundations and the WEF did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
