$86 million and this is what the Mets get — boos.

When the New York Mets brought starting pitcher Justin Verlander in on a two-year/$86 million contract during the offseason, the expectations from the franchise were that the reigning Cy Young Award winner would help bring glory to the wonderful (LOL) people of Citi Field. Well, it’s been anything but that for the Mets this season.

Coming into Tuesday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays with a losing record of 20-22, Justin Verlander made his home debut for the Mets, and in a disastrous start that saw him give up six runs on eight hits (including two home runs) in five innings, he was outright slammed by boos from the New York faithful.

And even more beautiful to this Atlanta Braves fan (one of New York Mets’ rivals if you’re not familiar), Verlander’s trash performance led the Mets to the 8-5 loss against the Rays, dropping them to 20-23 now on the season.

Ahh … I love it.

I’d absolutely be lying if I said I wasn’t loving this bad start for the New York Mets, and yes, I hope it continues.

Yeah, I was blogging over the offseason how much I love Mets owner Steve “Big Balla” Cohen and his big balla ways, but I knew that when we got into the campaign, things would get competitive and I’d hate the Mets again. And here I am. Mets fans, Jets fans, and half of Knicks fans. I can’t stand ’em, at least the obnoxious ones, which is 99.8% of them.

I enjoy their misery, and I also enjoy my Atlanta Braves sitting on top of the NL East, with my second-favorite team (for obvious reasons) the Miami Marlins in second-place. And the Mets and Philadelphia Phillies sitting behind with losing records. (RELATED: San Antonio Spurs Shockingly Land No. 1 Pick In NBA Draft Lottery, Expected To Select Victor Wembanyama)

Man … what a glorious start to the 2023 MLB season it’s been.
