Warner Bros. Pictures stunned DC fans by releasing a teaser trailer for “Aquaman 2” on Sunday, despite rumors that the film may have been canceled.

The quick, 30-second teaser reassured fans that the movie was indeed intended for upcoming release, and promised them that more information would come their way with the release of the full-length trailer on Sept. 14, according to the video posted to Twitter. Jason Momoa reprises his role as Aquaman — King Arthur Curry of Atlantis — and teams up with Patrick Wilson, who returns as Ocean Master.

The quick clip also showcased Nicole Kidman playing the role of Arthur’s mother, Queen Atlanna, and Wilson Orm as the former king of Atlantis.

The trailer video to the sequel of the 2018 original movie notably doesn’t make any reference to the return of Amber Heard. She does not appear in the teaser video, but there has not been an official statement clarifying her involvement in the upcoming film.

Quick snippets revealed scenes with the Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who booms through the audio and vows to avenge his father’s death. Footage of Arthur’s childhood home appears on the screen, completely engulfed in flames. Amid footage of Arthur’s childhood home in flames, the villain declares, “I’m gonna kill Aquaman and destroy everything he holds dear.”

Fans weren’t certain if the movie would be released after it faced a number of challenges, including the SAG-AFTRA strike, and rumblings of reported conflict between Momoa and Heard. Many fans believed Heard’s high-profile loss in court to Johnny Depp may have also affected the release of the film. Heard reportedly reprised her role as Mera, princess of Xebel, and Arthur’s love interest, in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”Her scenes, however, were not shown in the teaser-trailer. It is not yet known if she will be featured in the full-trailer to be released in the coming days.

The first Aquaman movie made over $1 billion at the box office, making it the highest-grossing DC Extended Universe movie, according to People.

The sequel is scheduled to premiere Dec. 20th.
