The White House is refusing to release evidence to support its defense of the large payments Joe Biden received from his family members.

Biden administration officials have said the $200,000 payment Joe Biden received from his brother James Biden and the $40,000 payment he received from sister-in-law Sara Biden were both loan repayments. However, the White House will not release the documentation to support its defense of the payments, according to a letter written Friday and obtained Monday by the Washington Examiner. White House special counsel Richard Sauber said the matter “concerns a financial transaction between two family members at a time when both individuals were private citizens,” the Washington Examiner reported. Both of the checks are classified as loan repayments, according to images of the checks shared by the Oversight Committee.

The Oversight Committee released bank records on Nov. 1 showing how money from China flowed into Biden family bank accounts, resulting in a $40,000 check from Sara Biden to Joe Biden in September 2017.

The committee disclosed in October a $200,000 payment James Biden sent to Joe Biden in March 2018, the same day he was loaned the money by distressed healthcare company Americore. James Biden told Americore his name could “open doors” and promised he would leverage his political connections to secure an investment in the Middle East, bankruptcy court documents show.

Comer wrote a letter to the White House on Oct. 26 requesting financial records to back up the White House’s assertion that Joe Biden was simply being repaid for loans he sent his brother. Comer said in the letter the bank records in his possession do not indicate Joe Biden loaned a significant amount of money to James Biden.

The White House has accused Comer of lying about the bank records in his possession to smear President Biden. (RELATED: Biden Admin Reportedly Made False Statement About Dinner With Hunter Biden’s Ukrainian Business Partner)

“The House Republicans know this. They have in their possession financial records showing Joe Biden gave his brother the money, then his brother paid the loan back,” White House spokesman Ian Sams said on X Saturday. Sams made similar comments when Comer released the bank records.

The Oversight Committee subpoenaed Hunter and James Biden’s personal and corporate bank records in late September after the first impeachment inquiry hearing into President Biden.

The Biden family and its associates brought in more than $24 million from Ukraine, Russia, China, Romania and Kazakhstan, according to a House memo released in late September.

Comer told Fox News on Sunday more subpoenas will be sent to the Biden family at a later date.
