Director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland from the 2002 mega-hit “28 Days” are reuniting for a sequel and potentially a trilogy of sequels.

Multiple sources indicate the new thriller will be available for studios and potential buyers within days, suggesting this project will move into development quickly, according to The Hollywood reporter. Talent agency WME represents Boyle and Garland and will handle the sale of the new flick. The budget for each movie sits around the $75 million range at this time.

Boyle and Garland have publicly discussed pushing forward with a sequel and their intentions are proving to be fruitful.

Boyle is poised to direct the first installment and Garland is reportedly on board to write all three. They will jointly produce the movie, alongside the original production team, Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice.

The original “28 Days” starred “Oppenheimer’s” Cillian Murphy and revitalized the zombie horror genre. Murphy played a man that falls into a coma after a bike accident and wakes up to find himself in a post-apocalyptic world that turned virus-infected citizens into enraged killers. The movie follows Murphy’s character as he attempts to assimilate in the new environment he woke up in.

The success and sheer creativity in “28 Days” sparked the release of other zombie movies, including “World War Z,” “Zombieland,” “The Walking Dead,” and “Dawn of Dead,” the Zack Snyder remake. Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” also followed, according to The Hollywood Reporter. (RELATED: It Seems Like A ‘Barbenheimer’ Movie Is Actually Happening, And It Looks Absolutely Insane)
