A majority of Democratic voters would support candidates who want “open” borders, according to a new poll conducted by CRC Research for The 85 Fund that was first obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The survey asked respondents whether they “would be more or less likely to support a candidate who…Says that immigration is healthy for the U.S. and we should keep our borders open to fill jobs many Americans do not want to do.” Fifty-five percent of Democratic voters said they would be more likely to support such a candidate, while 36 percent said they would be less likely,

Among Republican voters, 78 percent said they would be less likely to support a candidate who said that “immigration is healthy for the U.S. and we should keep our border open to fill jobs many Americans do not want to do.” Only 18 percent of Republicans voters said they would be more likely to support such a candidate.

The online poll results come from a survey conducted Jan. 3-7 of 1,600 registered voters nationwide. (RELATED: Biden’s ICE Chief Defends Top Official’s Meeting With ‘Abolish Borders’ Activist)

Illegal immigration has skyrocketed to record levels in recent years, with the Border Patrol recording more than 2.2 illegal crossings at the southern border in fiscal year 2022 and more than 2 million in fiscal year 2023, according to federal data.

In December, border agents experienced a record level of more than 300,000 encounters with illegal border crossers, according to Fox News.

“This administration’s unwillingness to enforce the law has caused the impact of uncontrolled immigration to penetrate deep into the psyche of voters in ways that evoke fear and frustration. They fear 9/11-like terrorist attacks,” James Massa, CEO of NumbersUSA, said in a statement to the DCNF.

“They are frustrated over costs and unavailability of health care, housing, and education. Howard Beale said it in the iconic film Network, the American people are “mad as hell and not going to take it anymore,” Massa said.

The poll had a ±2.45% overall margin of error at the 95% confidence interval, according to the poll.
