Angel Studios acquired the feature film “Possum Trot,” according to a Wednesday press release, and it sounds utterly heartbreaking.

Possum Trot” is based on the true story of Bishop and First Lady Donna Martin and the Bennet Chapel church in the small town of Possum Trot in East Texas, the studio said in a statement shared with the Daily Caller. Twenty-two families from the town came together to help place 77 children from the local foster care system, starting a national trend that has lasted to today.

The film is executive produced by Letitia Wright, one of the minds behind “Black Panther,” and stars Nika King from “Euphoria.”

“[‘Possum Trot’] is a rare film that merges an incredible true story with the power to transform a critical issue facing our communities. Our Angel Guild was deeply moved by the story,” Chief Distribution Office for Angel Studios Jared Geesey said in the statement. “Last July 4, [‘Sound of Freedom’] brought issues of trafficking to the attention of millions, and we know that a staggering percentage of children from foster care become targets for trafficking. We hope to continue to build on that awareness and shine light on the next step this Independence Day.” (RELATED: Which Side Are You On In ‘Homestead,’ The Epic New Apocalypse Film From Angel Studios?)

After the skyrocketing success of Angel Studios’ other projects, like “Sound Of Freedom,” “After Death” and more, we’re all fairly confident “Possum Trot” will be no different.
