Karen Finney, Hillary Clinton’s former 2016 campaign spokesperson, said Wednesday that voters see Democrats as “losers.”

Democratic Party-funded polling obtained by CNN shows Biden losing ground in the following 14 key battleground states: Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, the 2nd congressional district of Nevada, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. CNN host Kasie Hunt said “We don’t normally report on” internal polling, noting that many Democrats are concerned Biden will be “a massive drag” for down-ballot races.

Matt Gorman, former presidential campaign senior advisor for Tim Scott, said the era of split tickets has “really come to an end.” Finney told Gorman not to “forget” Georgia, where Republican Gov. Brian Kemp and Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock were elected in 2022. However, Gorman quickly reminded Finney that the Democratic senator was elected after Kemp on a different ballot — weeks later as part of an individual runoff race. “It was always gonna be a tough map for Democrats,” Finney remarked. “One of the things though that I think we’re in a cycle where Democrats — it’s becoming a life-fulfilling prophecy.”

“The more we talk about how afraid we are of losing instead of how we’re gonna win, voters are seeing us as losers. They’re looking at our candidates and saying, and I don’t mean that in the Donald Trump way, but in the if you don’t believe in yourself that you can win, voters are sort of saying, well then, why am I gonna… why should I vote for you?” Finney said.

Numerous Congressional Democrats concerned about their own races have called for Biden to drop his reelection bid. The pressure on the president by his own party began following his poor debate performance on June 27.
