Vice President Kamala Harris is likely to receive the Democratic nomination for presidency after President Joe Biden announced he would be exiting the race following a tidal wave of public criticism from Democrats.

Biden made his announcement in a Sunday statement he posted to Twitter following an unrelenting stream of concerns from his allies who expressed worry about his age, mental acuity and the viability of his candidacy.

But Harris herself, who appears poised to accept the nomination after raising a whopping $81 million in the 24 hours since Biden’s announcement, has spent months casting any attempt to question Biden’s age or lucidity as an an affront to decency.

In February, special counsel Robert Hur’s report on Biden’s classified documents case characterized Biden as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

Harris castigated Hur, calling his assessment “gratuitous, inaccurate and inappropriate.”

“The way that the President’s demeanor in that report was characterized could not be more wrong on the facts, and clearly politically motivated,” Harris said February in a video obtained by Bloomberg shortly after Hur released his report.

Harris also spent months before that defending Biden in the face of numerous media questions about his age.

During the November 2023 New York Times DealBook Summit, Harris told moderator Andrew Ross Sorkin that “age is more than a chronological fact.”

She continued to defend Biden’s mental fitness. “I spent a whole lot of time with our President, be it in the Oval Office or the Situation Room and in other places, and I can tell you … not only is he absolutely authoritative in rooms around the globe, but in the Oval Office meeting with members of Congress, meeting with leaders of industry, meeting with community leaders. I will tell you that he is in front of, often, everyone in the room in terms of thinking about how we can resolve issues,” Harris argued.

She echoed those sentiments in January during an interview with ABC News.

“He is extraordinarily smart. He has the ability to see around the corner in terms of what might be the challenges we face as a nation,” she told the outlet.

Most recently she took CNN’s Anderson Cooper to task for questioning Biden’s debate performance. (RELATED: Black Twitter Roasts Kamala Harris For Award Show Cringefest)

“Anderson, the point has to be performance in terms of what a president does … I got the point that you’re making about a one-and-a-half hour debate tonight. I’m talking about three-and-a-half years of performance in work that has been historic,” Harris argued.
“The person I see in the Oval Office who is meeting with heads of the military and the intelligence community. And in the situation room ensuring the safety of America, the person I see in Joe Biden on the world stage convening world leaders who often ask for his advice, most recently just during the G7 conference. So I’m not going to spend all night with you talking about the last 90 minutes when I’ve been watching the last three and a half years of performance,” she concluded.

Despite her ardent defense of Biden’s fitness, Harris put up no public protest when it came time to accept the baton he handed to her.

She’s fully absorbed Biden’s campaign staff, reportedly commandeering his Wilmington, Delaware campaign headquarters for her campaign less than a month after challenging Cooper on Biden’s record.

Harris is moving full steam ahead, with Democratic leaders like Nancy Pelosi endorsing her for president.
