Simone Biles won her second gold medal in the Olympics individual all-around competition Thursday afternoon, becoming just the third person to ever win multiple Olympic golds in this event.
Simone has been on a tear this week! She has always been spectacular, but her medal counts are becoming absolutely absurd at this point. She now has six gold medals and nine total Olympic medals in her career.
Biles was already the most decorated gymnast of all time for either sex before this with 39 total medals including the world championships. She now stands alone with the third-most gold medals of any women’s gymnast in Olympic history and is tied for fourth place all-time for total medals at the Games. This performance is even more striking given that she took the last Olympics off. Her decision to step away for mental health purposes sparked quite a controversy. But she has not competed in the Olympics in eight years and is still this dominant. Incredible.

Her greatness isn’t even limited to gymnastics. It stretches across Olympic sports and the United States. She became the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history Monday, winning team gold for USA. She already broke the record for most golds for U.S. gymnastics in 2016 by securing four at the time (eight years ago).
She is also the second-most decorated non-swimmer American female Olympian of all time, trailing only Allyson Felix’s 11 medals, seven of which were gold. She comes in at fourth all-time for non-swimming American Olympians and eleventh all time for all American Olympians.
Biles is an American legend. She represents the U.S. internationally with class and excellence and should be celebrated by everyone for this.
