Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s Los Angeles home was reportedly burglarized in July.
Law enforcement sources said that thieves made their way onto their property and smashed through a glass in order to obtain access to a guest house that’s located on their property, according to TMZ. The scene reportedly unfolded in broad daylight, and the broken glass triggered an alarm, but that didn’t stop the alleged robbers from making their way inside the home.
Hanks and Wilson were not home at the time, so it is unclear what, if anything, was taken from their guest house. A full inventory will be done upon their return, and they will assess what was damaged or stolen, at which point police will update their records accordingly, TMZ reported.
The intruders did not make it into the famous actor’s main house on the property, according to TMZ.
Sources close to the situation said it doesn’t appear that Hanks and his wife were specifically targeted, and noted there were many burglaries recorded in the area in the recent past.
This particular incident remains under investigation at this time. It is unclear how many culprits were responsible for this purported break-and-enter, and there has been no suspect information released at this time.
An insider said the criminals are becoming more brazen amid the recent spike in Los Angeles-based burglaries. The individual noted that some victims have even been tied up inside their own homes, according to TMZ.
Other celebrities who have been victimized by burglars in recent months include rapper Blxst, Bhad Bhabie, Marlon Wayans, Sarah Hyland and Jada Pinkett Smith, to name a few.
