Brian Stelter, who departed CNN in August of 2022 after his long-running show was canceled, announced Tuesday that he will return to the network as Chief Media Analyst.
Stelter took to social media to reveal his new position, which requires him to make television appearances and retake control of his Reliable Sources newsletter.
“I’m returning to @CNN in a brand new role as Chief Media Analyst,” Stelter wrote on Twitter. “I’ll be appearing on TV, developing digital content, and once again helming the Reliable Sources newsletter.”

Stelter made a separate post that links to a Substack article in which he explains to his children, Sunny and Story, that he is going back to work at CNN. Stelter detailed how his departure from CNN gave him more time with his family, which he said he was distant from as a result of being on the computer “probably too much” for his previous job. “So I’m rejoining my old team – but here’s what I want you to know,” Stelter wrote. “I’m still going to be home in the morning no matter what. I’m going to be Class Dad again this school year. And I’m going to turn off the news when you want to play Nintendo on the living room TV. It’s all about balance!”

Stelter’s former Sunday show, also titled “Reliable Sources,” was cancelled by former CNN President Chris Licht, who has since been replaced by CNN President Mark Thompson in August of 2023. “Reliable Sources” was CNN’s longest running show before its cancelation.
Licht took the helm after former CNN President Jeff Zucker announced his resignation in Feb. 2022 over a relationship with then-CNN chief marketing officer Allison Gollust. Stelter was the one who revealed Zucker’s relationship was with Gollust following his resignation announcement.
