BARCELONA, Spain — Evolution has been so cruel, burdening us with fingers. Thank heaven there are engineers hard at work making sure we can live without them.

Here at the Mobile World Congress, a German company called iDent Technology demonstrated technology that seems to trigger functions on cellphones almost by magic.

iDent built a chip into a cell phone that detects disruptions to an electrical field around the device. So, if the phone rings, you just need to pick it up and hold it in the palm of your hand to answer the call. Goodbye, talk button.
