Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Texas Republican, will not run for re-election in 2012, according to the Dallas Morning News.
“I am announcing today that I will not be a candidate for re-election in 2012,” she wrote to supporters. “That should give the people of Texas ample time to consider who my successor will be.”
Hutchinson, who has served in the Senate since 2003, challenged incumbent Rick Perry in a Republican gubernatorial primary last year. She was soundly defeated.
