A much-belated note of congratulations to 2012 ThinkProgress Tumblr Honoree, Meghan Lanker-Simons

This happened almost a year ago. But better late than never, right?

The moment you’ve all been waiting for is here! After months (days) of eager anticipation (quiet indifference), ThinkProgress is pleased to award our inaugural Golden Thinkrs to 10 tumblrs that have made us laugh, cry, think, sing, skip and—in one particular moment of weakness—drink heavily.

There are too many unique and worthy voices on Tumblr to cram into one award ceremony, so instead we relied on a complicated, mathematical formula to whittle down our list to what you see here. We did not—repeat, DID NOT—throw darts at a board and choose the first 10 we hit.

They are:

Mother Jones for pioneering progressive news and commentary on tumblr.

STFU Conservatives for helping us laugh at that thing Donald Trump said the other day.

Short Form Blog for making sure awesome stories don’t slip through the cracks.

Officials Say/ProPublica for reminding us that our elected representatives say the darndest things.

In Other News for adding a bit of culture into our otherwise political-obsessed days.

Cognitive Dissonance for liveblogging the entire GOP primaries.

And several others, which I’m sure are wonderful as well.

Cognitive Dissonance in particular is noteworthy today, though, because its proprietor is in the news. Eric Owens reports on the latest achievement of this proud “Golden Thinkr”:

A student at the University of Wyoming has been charged with interference with a police investigation after she allegedly posted on an anonymous social media page that she would like to engage in angry sexual intercourse with someone named “Meg Lanker Simons.”

The University of Wyoming Police Department now says the posting was a hoax written by — wait for it — Meghan Lanker-Simons…

Here is the anonymous posting which campus police have concluded was penned by Lanker-Simons:

“I want to hatef*** Meg Lanker Simons so hard. That chick runs her liberal mouth all the time and doesn’t care who knows it. I think its so hot and makes me angry. One night with me and shes gonna be a good Republican bitch.”

That certainly is some ugly right-wing hate speech, rendered all the more so by its fraudulence.

Lanker-Simons has taken to the pages of her award-winning site in response to this allegation:

In regards to recent allegations, I’ve retained counsel and entered a plea of not guilty.
