Green Party nominee Jill Stein filed a lawsuit Monday on behalf of a 100 voters to request a recount in Pennsylvania alleging that election fraud occurred in Pennsylvania’s presidential election.
Stein said in a Sunday video that it will be an uphill battle to get a recount in Pennsylvania. She said that her campaign would have to “jump through some hoops.”
The issue here being that Stein missed the deadline for a voter-initiated recount. A spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Department of State told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the deadline for a voter-initiated recount at the county level was last Monday. Recounts will not be possible in almost half of the Keystone State’s counties as they have already certified their results.
Stein’s lawyer contended that the November 8 election was “illegal” in papers filed in the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania. The Inquirer reported that Stein’s lawsuit would have to show evidence that election fraud was likely in the Keystone State, and Democratic Pennsylvania Secretary of State Pedro Cortes told reporters, “There is no evidence whatsoever that points to any type of irregularity in any way, shape or form.”
Pennsylvania Republican Party chairman Rob Gleason said in a statement: “Our General Counsel has reviewed the Election Contest and said it is totally and completely without any merit. It does not even allege any facts to support its wild claim that the ‘discontinuity’ of pre-election polls reported by the media showing that Hillary Clinton would win and the actual results could only have occurred through computer hacking originated by a foreign government.”
The recount Stein filed for in Wisconsin is set to start soon and she intends to file for a recount in Michigan. The deadline for a recount in Michigan is Wednesday. Donald Trump would have to lose recounts in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in order for him to lose the presidency.
