Leading journalists openly celebrated Tom Price’s resignation the way athletes and sports fans might celebrate a win in a big game.
After intense public scrutiny regarding his use of private planes as Health and Human Services secretary, Price resigned on Friday after President Trump indicated that he was considering firing him.
Reporters celebrated Price’s resignation as a “scalp” for Politico reporters Dan Diamond and Rachana Pradhan. The two reporters first revealed Price’s use of planes, which reportedly exceeded more than $1 million in taxpayer funds.
One Politico reporter joked that the outlet’s reporters were going to dump “a cooler of Gatorade” on Diamond and Pradhan.
.@rachanadixit and @ddiamond we are gathering a cooler of Gatorade to dump over you at your desks @ now https://t.co/guMa4bbd6O

Price isn’t even the first Trump official/nominee sunk by Politico. Remember Andy Puzder? That was some great reporting too.

Journalism is directly responsible for bringing to light lavish spending that led Price to resign. Kudos to @politico for dogged reporting.
