The USA men’s ice hockey team beat Slovakia late last night in the 2018 winter Olympics, and just like that we’re back on track.

The USA now controls our own destiny to get a first-round bye in the playoff rounds, and that means this game against Russia tomorrow morning means a whole hell of a lot. If we had lost last night, tomorrow would have meant nothing. To channel the great Herb Brooks, it’d be like a “throwaway game up in Rochester.”
There was much debate in the office about whether or not it’d even be worth drinking at seven in the morning for a game that was meaningless.
Well, that’s no longer the case. The game tomorrow is pretty much for all the marbles. A win guarantees us a bye in the playoffs and a loss means things are going to get very dicey. I’ll be up before the sun even rises cranking music throughout the house as I crush a few Miller Lites in the shower to get things started.
Remember, I’m not doing this for me. I’m doing this for America. Now hit the music!
