A woman trying to become a U.S. citizen was allegedly raped by a Washington, D.C., public school teacher who offered to teach her English.
The woman was taken to Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville, Maryland, after she was found unconscious outside of a Wendy’s restaurant by an employee on Oct. 9. Officials gave her a sexual assault test where they found the woman needed reconstructive surgery for cuts. She also had severe injuries within and around the her genitals, ABC7 reported Tuesday.
“[The victim] felt extremely disoriented and had intense pain in her lower belly, vagina, anus and breasts,” investigators wrote in court documents, according to ABC7.
The woman identified Shepherd Elementary School music teacher Rudy Gonzalez, 47, as the perpetrator.
He denied to police that he was aware of the woman’s injuries, but said that the woman did not have injuries before she was with him, NBC 4 reported.
The woman recalled Gonzalez offered to help her learn English so she could obtain her U.S. citizenship, according to ABC7. He allegedly took the woman to his home and served a few “unidentified beverages” on Oct. 8.

Gonzalez told police that he had five shots of tequila while the woman had seven. He added that the sexual activity was consensual and that he also helped her shower three separate times to clean off vomit, blood and semen, ABC7 reported.
“Gonzalez stated that throughout the night he was worried that [the victim] might accuse him of raping her due to her intoxication level,” officials noted during the interview with Gonzalez. “He woke her up in the morning and dropped her off at the Wendy’s located at the Wheaton Plaza at her request.”
The teacher was charged with second-degree rape, third-degree sex offense and first- and second-degree assault by officials, according to ABC7. Gonzalez is originally from El Salvador, a U.S. citizen and a divorced father of three children.
Montgomery County District Court Judge Patricia Mitchell granted Gonzalez a $50,000 bond. Gonzalez paid for 10 percent of the bond two days after his arrest and was released from jail.
Gonzalez is scheduled for a preliminary hearing next month, according to NBC 4.
D.C. Public Schools and Montgomery County Police did not immediately respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
