It looks like the New York Jets are about to be in even more trouble.
That’s because star running back Bilal Powell reportedly injured his neck so badly last week that he now stands to lose his entire career in the NFL.
The injury happened during the second quarter of the Jets’ losing game against the Vikings on Sunday. Powell went down and was taken out for the rest of the game for evaluation. And after seeing several doctors, the team’s not sure he’ll ever be able to return.

There’s no doubt Powell will require surgery. But the Jets aren’t exactly being forthcoming about Powell’s injury. All we know is he has an injured disc, and it’s pretty serious.
Asked whether the injury could be career ending, Jets coach Todd Bowles told the media, “It’s possible. We’ll see how the surgery goes.”

What we do know, however, is that the Jets are going to feel his absence. He’s ranked No. 10 on the all-time Jets rushing list but will be a free agent at the end of this season. Which makes his injury even more complicated, since the 30-year-old running back will now obviously have to convince a team that he’s ready to play another season without complications.
