Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Graham Mertz still hasn’t knocked Jack Coan from the apparent top spot on the depth chart.
According to Jason Galloway, Mertz was the second quarterback to get reps for the Badgers in one of the spring practices up to the media Tuesday. Jack Coan took the first reps. (RELATED: Should Graham Mertz
The rest of the QB’s reps were “practically even” with Mertz, despite the fact he took snaps ahead of him.
Graham Mertz was the second QB in after Jack Coan during team and 7-on-7 drills today, although his reps were still practically even with Danny Vanden Boom and Chase Wolf.

Chase Wolf threw a pretty 70-yard TD to A.J. Taylor during 7-on-7 drills. A lot of good moments for #Badgers QBs today but also a couple bad INTs. (Coan to Lytle (pick six) and Mertz to Harrell).

Obviously, we haven’t seen everything that’s happened in practice, and Mertz did throw an interception when the media was watching yesterday.
So did Coan, and it doesn’t mean much. This is spring ball after all. I’m just struggling to understand why he’s not taking more first-team reps. (RELATED: Hype Continues To Grow That Quarterback Graham Mertz Could Start For Wisconsin)

I’m not understanding it at all, actually. Not one bit. Did we bring in the most highly-touted QB recruit in school history to sit on the bench?
No, I don’t think we did.
We brought him in to ball out and lead this program. How is he supposed to do that if he’s not playing and he’s not leading the first team offense?
I trust Paul Chryst, I know he can coach, and I have no doubt that he knows what he’s doing. I just hope he doesn’t blow this situation with Mertz.
Maybe he’s just taking fewer reps right now because he’s still digesting the playbook, getting his time down and things of that nature. All I know is that we need him playing more than he currently is.
