Bill Cosby has accused the judge in his case of being part of a racist plot against him.
Cosby’s lawyers filed an application Wednesday for the star to be released on bail during the appeals process, according to Page Six. In a statement from Cosby’s lawyers, they claim that Judge Steven O’Neil found the actor guilty because of his skin color.
The statement quotes Cosby saying, “[Judge Steven O’Neil’s] dishonorable conduct makes me smile, because this judge is being exposed, and it shows that this is bigger than me. O’Neill now has his formula: tried, true and tested to destroy any black man and/or colored man In America.” (RELATED: Bill Cosby’s Life In Prison Sounds Like A Breeze)
“We’re asking that this scandalous judge be removed immediately, and Mr. Cosby be granted bail throughout the appeals process, because the judge’s racial hatred towards Mr. Cosby, clouds his better judgment to be a good steward of the bench,” Cosby’s lawyers added.
Cosby is currently serving out his three to 10-year sentence in a Philadelphia prison. The 81-year-old comedian was convicted in 2017 of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand.
During the highly-publicized trial, more than 60 women came forward to accuse Cosby of sexually assaulting them. Cosby denies any wrongdoing.
