President Donald Trump ripped the newest 2020 presidential candidate, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, in a Thursday morning tweet, calling him “the worst mayor in the U.S.”

“Bill de Blasio of NYC, considered the worst mayor in the U.S., will supposedly be making an announcement for president today,” Trump said. “He is a JOKE, but if you like high taxes & crime, he’s your man. NYC HATES HIM!”

De Blasio became the 23rd Democrat to run for president, officially launching his campaign Thursday after months of speculation. (RELATED: Bill De Blasio Draws Six-Person Crowd In New Hampshire)

A poll published by Quinnipiac University last month showed de Blasio’s approval rating at 42%, with 76% of respondents saying they wished de Blasio would not run for president. The poll surveyed 1,077 voters in New York City and had a margin of error of roughly 3.8%. (RELATED: New Hampshire Poll Shows Bernie Sanders With Double-Digit Lead)

De Blasio held a climate change event outside Trump Tower in New York City over the weekend. During the event, de Blasio was heckled by protesters who held up signs that said “worst mayor ever” and “Trump 2020.”
